ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

I have a script to do oracle8i cold backup running on linux redhat8 once a week. I found the cold backup failed as database was hung on a shutdown and noticed an oracle error in the log file.

Please advise what cause the error and how to avoid or fix this error?
