perhaps these instruction need to be followed. I remember seeing
something
sumilar in the RedHat 2.1 manuals.
As ROOT;
edit the /etc/security/limits.conf file
oracle soft nofile 4096
oracle hard nofile 8192
the above goes into effect the next time the oracle user logs in.

According to the Quick Start Guide you need to setup ulimits.
However,
apparently there must be somewhere were the user oracle has a certain
number of processes allocated that conflict with these limits. The
error when logging on as oracle is:
-bash: ulimit: max user processes: cannot modify limit
What would I need to modify?
