Welcome to my world starting 2001!
It is like the question how do you eat an elephant (one bite at a time), only in this case, the elephant is roughly the size of Wisconsin.
What part are you taking in the APPS installation? I guess the technology stack would be a good place to start, or at least maybe familiarity with the utilities (adpatch, adadmin, adctrl). If you have a place where you can tinker just a little, you can see what happens when... whatever the when is.
Metalink is a good resource if you want basic ERD and the relationship between things.
and never ever ever ever let anyone mess around in the internals without your knowing what in the blue blazes they are doing!

Subject: Oracle e-business suite for starters
[Incoming vague question]
I have to get involved with Oracle's e-buisness suite (currently
installed version: Applications 11.5.8)
Can someone suggest a starting point in beginning to comprehend the
"beast"?
I'm talking about building up a basic understanding of the essentials
(framework/architecture) and moving on to more
administrative issues.
TIA. ps. are there perhaps distinct parts which can be attacked more easily separately?
