Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: RMAN Cross-platform DUPLICATE? (was: BAARF - true lifestory )
Thanks for the wisdom. I read Ruth's comment about different OS and
leapt to the wrong conclusion that I had been wrong before, but of
course I now realize that I'm wrong (I thought I was mistaken but I was
wrong :)
Of course Ruth was referring to different OS version not different OS Platform.
My mistake.
You can go back to you lives people.

with RMAN (10g) you can indeed convert Oracle datafiles from little to
big
endian format and vice versa, and 10g data files are now
platform-aware.
this is meant for the cross-platform transportable tablespace feature,
though -- I am not an RMAN expert, so I don't know how this affects
RMAN
DUPLICATE ...
Kind regards,
Lex.

Stephen, "duplicate across platforms" possible in 10g, but impossible
in other versions. The requirements for "duplicate" are, quite
logically,
identical to the requirements for transportable tablespaces. Prior to
10g,
you couldn't do that across platforms.
