I was looking for a humorous redneck chapter with a bunch of beer-belly
photos. Or..wait..was that another author?

I'm highly disappointed in this book. These so-called experts merely use
bluster and story-telling to mask their poor knowledge of database
systems. For example, nowhere in the book do the authors backup their
claims with reference to the well documented efficiency measures that
are a standard part of every dbas toolkit.
There is also no coverage of the time-consuming but necessary maintenance steps that are needed to pro-actively manage your database system. For example index and tablespace management barely gets a mention.
Many of the stories focus on 'user satisfaction' and other trendy and vague management speak, rather than the detailed presentation of metrics and statistics. Indeed one of the authors airly dismisses the the metric based approach as 'compulsive tuning disorder' a clearer case of missing the point has not been seen for a long time. </review>
Is the book available in the UK yet?=3D20
