normalization is about removing redundancy --
not to save disk storage, but to maintain data consistency.
there is the exception of the DWH world, though,
where redundancy is not a problem
(due to the read-only nature of such environments)
and where the redundancy is supposed to result in
better performance for high volume data sets.
