No, they didn't have an init.ora file. If they had, I wouldn't have been scrambling to create one! And, of course, if I knew the accounts, passwords, directories being used, etc., (not to mention being able to put my hands on the keyboard!) I could have just created a stub init.ora file. But that takes time to research because I'm not the dba for that system.
