Yes, I tried it two months ago. Here is my old notes:
How I did it (on Windows 2000):
- Download two zip-files from OTN (basic and sqlplus)
PATH and TNS_ADMIN can be set permanently using "My Computer" =3D=3D> Properties =3D=3D> Advanced =3D=3D> Environment Variables.
Advantages compared to traditional client:
- No need to recompile (Unix).
A few disadvantages:
- 10g Client does not support "Oracle Names" as
naming method. Hence the 10g Instant Client does
not support "Oracle Names".
- When trying to make Instant Client work with
"Directory Naming" it failed (for me).
- Directory Naming works with 10g traditional Client.
I have tested the Windows 2000 client against 10g databases running on Linux and Windows 2000 servers.
