I don't have 8i any more. It was from my memory. I wasn't sure whether DBMS_XPLAN was in the first release of 9i or 8i. My memory is obviously deceiving me. Now I went to OTN, checked 8i documentation, and you're right, DBMS_XPLAN isn't there. I do have 9.2.0.5 and 10.1, and both versions do have that package.
