Good grief.
I was all prepared to tell Tim that it was a joke he didn't get and to back away from the uptight pipe, and then I find out Mladen -- of all the tongue-in- cheek, acerbic, sarcastic, witty, cracksters on the whole damn list apparently didn't "get it" either.
To be clear -- I thought Mladen's post was funny and right on..like 99.9% of them..and was just indulging in a bit of camaraderie with him about those drones that don't understand sarcasm, dry humor, etc. Christ, I would have thought the "OT" in the subject heading would at least be a clue.
And then on top of that, Rachel writes to tell me that virtually no on is going to understand my humor (but she did...thank God)....and that because of my mail, the flame war will start again, Jared will close the list and the free world will come to an end.
*sigh*
I am "sorry", but only that it didn't provide the chuckle (mostly for Mladen) that it was meant to provide.
(Oh, OK, I guess I am sorry that Tim had to get all suited up in knightly garb to do battle with non-existent foe.)
Off to the OT list again, shaking my head,
Ross

Ross,
You owe Mladen and the entire list an apology for venting your petty frustrations in public. If his post displeases you, please have the courtesy -- and the courage -- to discuss it with him directly and privately.
Moreover, Jared doesn't need any suggestions from you on how to run this forum. Unless you are prepared to take responsibility for implementing your
own suggestions, please keep them to yourself.

Mladen,
In metaphorically de-referencing a backup thread as a rope, and then
comparing
to OPS, RAC, etc. you are possibly forcing the generic, helpless, anonymous
and
witless DBA to make a major purchasing decision which could result in
massive
failures in his IT department, general business failure, loss of job,
family, and indeed
life.
I think you are a very bad and malicious person. You should be passed no
more
pointers to metaphors, and set to "moderated" status. Perhaps only then
you'd
learn how to behave in a large yet delicate and fragile community of DBAs.
There, I said it. I feel better.

Which can easily be answered from the documentation, but since I have to be nice, here we go:

Restores controlfile from the backups of controlfile. It doesn't look into other backups.
> b)restore controlfile from autoback;
Restores controlfile from any backup which has controlfile autobackup.

If

Maximum numer of corrupt blocks for the datafile number 3. A malicious and
bad
person would suggest you to read the f***ing manual, but, as I've said
before,
I'm a nice guy, so I will not say anything like that.

A long, thin string, first among the many. Bundled together, you can call
them a rope,
OPS or RAC, depending on the material they're made of.

Michael from Utah will probably have something to say about your question,
but please, pay
no attention. You're welcome.
