Off topic for this list has already been defined. The welcome message includes the following:

Please do not use this list for off topic posts.

What is meant by off topic?

Any topic that is not related in some way to working with Oracle is off topic.

Recipes are off topic. Jokes are off topic. Poems and lyrics to songs are off topic.

There are times when humor is part of a conversation, and that is OK. Injecting humor is quite a bit different than posting a joke.

Please do not use language on this list that you would not use in front of your small children. Let's keep it clean.

If you want to ask questions about other related topics such as OS, programming languages, shell scripting, Perl, Java, etc. that is acceptable. There are many folks here with a wide array of experience. If the topic gets too far afield, I might ask you to take it offline.
