Already tried it both ways, with the same result. Metalink is no help so far. I appreciate the responses - keep 'em coming. Scott Shafer

Try to set the LOCAL_LISTENER to "DESCRIPTION= (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=dbserver)(PORT=1421))" instead of tns alias.
