MySQL *can* be a competitor for Oracle, but it needs to mature a LOT = before it becomes <insert buzzword here>-ready. That being said, my = e-mail from home runs off of MySQL. :)

I still think PostreSQL is out in front of MySQL for features at least. = I really need to install that one of these days...

I misunderstood Nuno's post. Yes, you are right, MySQL has nothing like = clustering.
As for competing with oracle, it doesn't necessarily have to be on = technical
merits, it can compete on the price. If you don't need RAC (I believe it = was Cary
who wrote an article with the title like "What is RAC and why you = probably=20
don't need it", but I haven't finished my 2nd cup of coffee yet), then = MySQL is
a formidable competitor.
