It's true. Hash clusters (and index clusters and IOT's) can reduce the number of IO's required under the right circumstances. Lots of good examples in the Oracle documentation. When we wrote the DBA materials for version 7.0 (where I wrote the dreadful Integrity Constraints chapter) we didn't know very much about hash and index clusters. Now we do. Check out sql.bsq or experiment yourself. All of these features are under-utilized. As Steve Adams once remarked: If a design doesn't show the usage of at least one IOT it's probably not a good design.
