I can't speak for Oracle (nor Sun), but my take is that often these events are set for a specific purpose, then the reason for setting them disappears into the mist of time. I love the ones that reference a TAR that you can no longer view and Support can't tell you why. Anytime a new version (even a bug fix) is installed, the event may cause new problems.

If there is any other way to deal with a problem, I would definitely do it.
