Ha!
Actually, this huge sga didn't help things any. I needed to prove it to the person coordinating the test so I started up the database with a 20 GB buffer cache and a 7GB large pool. The smaller test I did, with a 8 GB buffer cache, nearly removed my buffer busy waits during the data load phase. Basically I needed to prove that we can run on the 64-bit architecture and that our load times would improve significantly. They did - from 2 hours to 1 hour 15 minutes. I can shave even more off of it if they let me modify the workflow.
They aren't going to buy this host anyway. It's a Unisys E7000 with a price tag of $250K for 8 Itanium 2 cpu's, running Windows Datacenter. AAAAK! See, I'm so easy to please. Give me spendy hardware and I'm kind of happy...
Have a great day, everyone
