Hi Terry,
I've read all the other list reponses. Suggestion? Look for partial exports to help rebuild portions of the lost tablespace(s)? What a mess.
You could also suggest they immediately attempt to prevent similar/further hardware failures at the site, unless its proven to be a singular disk system failure. You might help with risk analysis of their other (undamaged) databases and files, or help get some answers from their SA/DBA/etc (new or old). Preventing further issues can save the day after a single data loss.
They should be willing to listen based on (1) how much they value their data, or (2) how much the IT department value their jobs.
Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
Regards,
Mike Thomas
PS: Ask the IT director if he/she has read what's in envelope three. Just kidding. ;-)
(You know the answer: "Make three envelopes")
