The bigfile tablespaces introduced in 10.1 increases the max size limits. Bigfile tablespaces is a tablespace with a single file which can hold up to (4 GB) blocks. I didn't bother doing the math, but according to the New Features Guide this makes the max size for an Oracle database 8 exabytes. http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B13789_01/server.101/b10750/chapter1 .htm#sthref558
