Well... Looks like your stuck... Oracle's stance on this is the only supported method is exp/imp... That is until you get to 10g...

I did find some more info about 10g... Check out metalink note Note:243304.1 for a description of using transportable tablespaces in 10g between OS platforms... Interestingly, one of the examples they show is moving a file from Sun to HP... In that case, no conversion is necessary... You only need RMAN when in certain circumstances... The obvious one is when you're moving between endian's.. I'm not sure if there are any others... Makes me wonder if this would work in a lower release??? But, that is curiosity only since you still wouldn't be supported by Oracle...

I also found a forum reference that might be of interest... It has a couple of items... One is to use Shareplex... The other references an IOUG article from last year... The relevant part is attached below...

Hi Sam
I finished a project moving a number of 10 to 400 GByte databases from HP to AIX in October. We did an lot of steps to move the data faster. Email me for more info. The team I worked with submitted an large article to a large Magazine geared at Oracle Users, yet no publication date has been announced.

Email me and I will give you a phone number for contact and shed some light on some of our approaches.

We had the luxury of 12 hours downtime. The applications and everything moved to new affordable AIX computers 17 miles away. Had we not had the luxury of down time, we probably would have picked up QUEST SharePlex.

Sam, Piers Cherryl's article was published by the International Oracle Users Group in their "SELECT" magazine in April 2003. Title is:
Cross Platform Migration of a Large Production Database For IOUG Members, the link is:
