carel-jan, OID has a kind of proxy tool, which can act as a oracle names server, but fetches the connection-descriptors out of the OID. oracle names is supported with 8.1.6 and lower.

Subject: Generate tnsnames.ora from OID

At a customer's site mentioned in an earlier thread we intend to move from tnsnames.ora to OID. However, many applications still are based on C/S mode Forms6i. This doesn't work with OID, since Forms6i C/S is (was?) supported SQL*Net up to 8.1.6. However, running over 150 databases we still want to achieve having a 'Single Source of Truth' in OID. The clients that do not support OID will have to fall back on a (probably centralised) tnsnames.ora.

Question: Is there a way to generate tnsnames.ora automagically from OID? Does anyone know of some script to do this?

TIA, Carel-Jan
