Hi,

you might want to look at a paper i found a link to called "Undocumented Oracle - what they didn't teach you ate Oracle" - there is a link on my site http://www.petefinnigan.com/other.htm - it talks about file internals and also about the startup and bootstrap$. The guy does a binary edit on svrmgrl to change bootstrap$ name and also to change some text in a v$ table.
