Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> Oracle 9.0.1.4 on NetApps 940 filer left over locks after crash
We are running an Oracle instance attached to a NetApp 940 filer (over
NFS) using GbE and JumboFrames...under Solaris 2.9. The box crashed
and on reboot it appeared that the filer had residual locks to Oracle
files, preventing the instance from coming back up. We ended up running
sm_mon on the filer to free up the locks and restarted the Oracle
instance successfully. I'd like to solicit comments on two points:
1) Is there a best way to check for the existence of mounts (NFS)
before starting an instance on normal startup ?
2) Does anyone have experience with a NetApp filer, with multiple
instances on a host, NFS attached to it ? What happens when one
instance starts and the other is hung up on NetApp locks. sm_mon would
wipe out all the locks associated with the client, doesn't seem that we
would want that for the surviving instance. Would we have to stop all
instances on the host to clean out the locks on the filer for only one
?
Thanks ...Chris
