If your db runs in archivelog mode then why don't you take only online
backups (RMAN). Taking offline backup every month won't be a good idea
as once you shutdown your db you will loose everything from the buffers
like from shared_pool and db_buffers and when you startup the db all
your queries will be expensive.
While exporting you can use consistent=y to solve your problem.
Generally, people keep database is restricted mode while taking full
export to avoid other users being modifying data.

Subject: Re: Yet Another Export Question
Hi,
I am utilizing three methods for backup. Exp/Imp (Daily), Online
(Weekly), Luxurious Offline (monthly). Justin, I am exploring your
suggestion of separate tablespace for my picture table. Would somebody
tell
me that my current backup strategy is ok or not?
I have got one more question.
If an export of database is in operation and some users are using some
tables in database, then does export utility also export
currently-in-use
tables or it just skips them?
regards,
Fahd
