I have had pretty good luck going to http://www.google.com, entering Oracle-l in the search box followed by the terms I'm searching for. There are several sites on the Internet that archive messages on this forum, but none of them seem to search as good as Google. Also, if you want to restrict your search to a single archive site, you can enter site:
I don't think Google directly crawls the freelists site, but other sites mine the archives and then Google crawls those sites.
I do feel that you have a good idea here, before you post a question do a little quick research to see if the topic has been discussed before.
