I understand that. If I had a choice, I'd have stayed with the company that gave me the most education. Unfortunately, that company is no more. So I had to go to others that never trained anyone, just churned. Do you think I'd ever go back to these? Not in a zillion.

But I think you'll agree there was a fad period in the 80s-90s where it was "de rigueur" for many in IT to hang around a coupla years for training, then jet off to form their own dotcom. Or something of the ilk. So much so that many companies stopped training precisely for that reason. Problem is: it's not like that anymore, but few have resumed the training...

Coming back to Cary's excellent point: I'm not so sure education is a factor anymore, for these reasons. One: it is not freely given anymore (of course: exceptions!). Two: there is a perception that if given, it will go to waste. Three: employees expect no education anymore. Just version upgrades.
