I went looking for the specs. It looks like it's designed to be partitioned. And, it looks like
a pretty capable machine. Are you going to be using Oracle 10G? I'm not an expert on grid
computing...or just not much of an expert...;) but I think the trend is in that direction and it
might be advantageous to look at the new design methodology. I'm pretty sure HP would be happy
to explain just how this product would fit into your project.

Subject: Hardware Architecture.. please advise
I am designing a new data warehouse and will be using Discoverer and Portals on the Apps server/middle tier. My sys admin wants to purchase the new HP RP7420 for production. He wants to purchase one server for both the apps server and the database server instead of separate servers for each app server and database.
He says he can partition the server to make it look like 2 separate servers. Can anyone offer me some advice if this is a good idea or not? My gut felling is to stick with separate servers but I know technology and industry standard architecture changes.
Thanks in advance!
