Is it safe to "create index.. ONLINE in 8.1.7.3"

Dear Gurus,

I need your opinion about creating index ONLINE in version 8.1.7.3 in production environment.
We would like to create an index on one of our primary table, since the system is live (and no outage scheduled) like to build a new index ONLINE.

Few months ago somebosy reported saying that BLOCK CORRUPTION oCCURED because of CREATE INDEX ... ONLINE.

Does anyone experience this kind situation? Any feedback on this would be really appreciated.
