Not just for transport between OS'es, the "dp" utilities are
exp/imp on steroids and are supposed to be much faster then the
"classics". I did expdp/impdp but I was unable to notice any drastic
difference, despite the fact that the schema I was exporting contained
both EMP and DEPT, 18 rows taken together. Unfortunately, my 10g installation
is intended strictly for testing, so I have to find several gigs of data
to exp/imp it. One thing is that the directory to which you are
exporting from must now be create using "create directory" command
in sqlplus. I have no idea how would that work in a real situation.
