Not sure about 8.1.7 to 9, but our steps on moving from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7 were as follows:

  1. Bring down Production.
  2. Apply all remaining logs to Standby.
  3. Bring down the Standby.
  4. Bring up Production and Convert to 8.1.7.
  5. Bring up the Standby using 8.1.7 binaries.
  6. Apply logs from Converted Production.

The big point they made in the docs was to make sure your standby was brought up as the new version before applying the logs generated from the conversion. So far, we have had no issues with the converted standbys.

Subject: Migration of a standby database to 9i

hi all=20
Has anyone migrated a standby database from 8.1.7 to 9.2.0?? If yes could you please outline what were the steps?? I am trying to migrate by applying archive logs from the primary database to the standby database but am not successful.

Oracle Metalink instructions are not clear and Oracle 9i migration doc does not give more help.

Thanks

Yuval=20
