How true Jonathan.

It can be rather frustrating at times because the reporting capabilities of SQL plus are very robust and easy to use.

When it gets too ugly I turn to Perl.

While Mladen loves Perl's reporting capabilities, it does leave something to be desired when it comes to doing breaks and subtotals.

I've even used Perl as a front end for SQL*Plus for that very reason.
