I filed an iTAR after all...
This is a bug # 3372651 on HP-UX platform, I was told by OWS. No patch or workaround in sight. The bug is not visible on the Metalink, but my TAR# is tied to the bug (per OWS). I will post an update when this gets resolved.
I do not have Linux yet, or Solaris, so I can not confirm that the bug only affected HP-UX. Would appreciate it if someone can test it and report the result. Thanks.
