Given that I submitted the owa_pattern solution tested I'm not sure I want = to point people at this but nevertheless the speed drawback is well illustr= ated here http://www.psoug.org/sql_fun.html. The problem set was to validat=e US phone numbers in as few lines of code as possible.=20

that
OWA_PATTERN is horribly slow.
I wrote a package generator (generates files using UTL_FILE) using =3D
patterns,
and I have to say, compared=3D20
to Perl regex, it's pure pain.
