symapi error

Hi All,  

DB: 8.1.7.4
OS: Solaris 2.8  

We have the emc backup process for our production database. We are getting the following error when the disk group is being sync'd (during thehot backup process).  

The SYMAPI database file is already locked by another process.  

Can somebody through some light on this locking. Is this the lock on any datafiles ? or on the emc disks ?
And how to find such locks ?  

(killing the current job and re-running the same job (sync) after 15 mins is resolving the issue).
