using oracle 817 driver against oracle 92 database

Hi all:

I just learned that our application team is using oracle 817 driver to connect to a oracle 92 application (via das and via websphere). Is anyone aware of any big problems with that setup? I am going to recommend to upgrade to oracle9, but I don't think this is an emergency. Am I wrong?
