You know, I talked to someone at last year's MySQL conference who was using MySQL to manage three terabytes. I don't recall the details of what he was doing, how many users, how much I/O, etc. I recall though, that it was a mostly read-only database. However, I don't think size alone is a very meaningful statistic.
