Yeah, the module compiler was cool. I once wrote a SQL module that let a program hit a database, and also C module with an identical interface that let the same program hit some indexed files on the filesystem. With a simple relink, I could switch between using tables and using files. I guess you could do that without the SQL Module compiler too, but I really liked using the module compiler. It seemed a better way to organize SQL, and it probably forced me to put a bit more thought into the SQL that I wrote for an application.
