Hi John,
Have you check your sqlnet.ora parameter?
perhaps you want to try to add
GLOBAL_DBNAME = hostname
in your init.ora?

Having problems getting Oracle 8 client working with DNS.
I can ping the server hostname from my Windows 2000 client, but I cannot tnsping it
Do I need to do anything at the server end. The listener is running on the server.
