Very much possible and very simple if you are using Linux or Windoze. I think there is a note on Metalink with step by step instructions for setting a RAC on single node -Linux.

It is slightly complicated if you want to run RAC on windows. I know couple of guys here who are running RAC on Windows on their laptop. You need to get a USB disk (or flash disk) to set up the raw partitions and you can run RAC on WIndows too...
