Store and retrieve image from bfile in Oracle 8.1.7.4

Hi,
I use Oracle 8.1.7.4 to store some images with bfile. After I created a directory in DB with "create or replace directory MY_FILES as '/mydir' " and insert one image file with dbms_lob.loadfromfile(), then I found I don't need to insert other images in that directory. I can retrieve and display them in Web with dbms_lob.read() after I put some new images in that directory, whatever the size, format (gif or jpg), even pdf (as long as I use owa_util.mime_header to set mime type). My question is: is this fine? I don't need to use ORDSYS.ORDImage and set properties for them?
