all for the input. Unfortunately we don't have an cloned system to work with and this is version 8.1.7.4 on Tru64. Looks like I will just have to sample more rows and see what happens.

  I don't think so, but I have (in 9202) successfully exported   stats to a table, re-computed the stats, proving that   stats-are-not-the-problem-but-bad-code-is and restored the stats   back.
