Thanks, was not sure if you could rename the files before you had done the required recovery of the database. Since you can rename using the backup controlfile before recovery then everything should go smoothly as I have done the cold backup restore process LOTS :-)

Restore the controlfile backup and all your datafiles to F:
Configure the init<SID>.ora to set the control_files parameter to the controlfile at F:
STARTUP MOUNT
Run the ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE <oldfilein E:> TO <newfile in F:> for each datafile (including the SYSTEM Tablespace datafile)
RECOVER DATABASE, applying all the ArchiveLogs you have
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS

If you have a very large number of files to be renamed at Step 3, you could generate
the script from your source database, if you want to avoid having to manually write
the command for each file
