Geez Steve,
Excellent response. You certainly do communicate very well in e-mail. Ever thought of writing a book?

If you ever do find the perfect company don't go to work there otherwise it will no longer be perfect! :-)
As I see it, we're responsible for maintaining the database but not for data content and/or usage. To say that we're responsible for content and usage is like blaming the telephone company for transmitting foul language spoken by others.
The mere existence of personal data degrades privacy. Social Security numbers are unconstitutional so if you store them you've violated someone's rights. I'm sure that sometime in every company's history a damager has discriminated somehow whether wittingly or no. In fact, the Supreme Court has instructed employers and universities on HOW they should discriminate by law. Bolts and screws could be used in the assembly of all kinds of weapons. If your company manufactures widgets which are used by automobile manufacturers and a member of the CIA drives one of those cars then you are supporting weapons procurement however tangential. Where does it ever end??? Oh yeah, if you drive an SUV you're supporting terrorists. And of course, if you have anything to do with the media then you're supporting weapons of mass seduction. ;-)
OK, tongue in cheek rant fun over... If a company is involved in overtly illegal or blatantly immoral activity that's one thing but anything else is just daily life in the not-so-black-and-white city. Let your light glimmer and...
LET HIM WHO IS WITHOUT CORRUPT DATA CAST THE FIRST STONE! :-) Only NULL data is possibly perfect and unexecuted SQL is the MOST efficient.
