I'd bet that you were creating indexes when it seemed to you that nothing
was happening. either that, or recreating the foreign key constraints which
could take a lot of time while it verified that they were all valid.
glad it worked out for you. look at the "feedback" option within Import. it can indicate for you when a number of records have been inserted. i've used it for large imports and it helps.

It does, thank you. The import just seemed to stall but after another few minutes, it completed importing the entire schema.
I guess I need to change the import parameters to give me some indication of where it's at.
Thanks for your help,
Saira

Saira,
a simple way to check is to look at the size of the data files (using
OEM).
if you see the high water mark increasing, or the size of the rollback
segments increasing, then you know that something is happening.
if you used the 'commit = y' parameter provided with the import utility,
you
could also do periodic 'select count(*) from table_name' to see if the
record counts are growing.
hope this helps

How can I find out if an import is dead or alive? I have an import of 1.6M+ rows that's been running for over 45 minutes.
Oracle 8.1.7.0.0
AIX 4.3.3
What can I check?
Thanks,
Saira
