I agree. In the performance domain, I'm repeatedly horrified to find out
that a routine syscall in the Windows kernel can require 2x to 5x more CPU
service than the corresponding syscall in Linux.

Go linux man. It will consume less of your resources than W2K leaving more for your instances. It will also use standard shell scripting and such that
if you need to scale to a different *NIX your scripts go along A LOT easier.
In fact, many of our scritps here are transparent between HPUX and Linux (we
use ksh on both). Stability is better and security is a lot easier to lock down.
