You might look at http://technet.oracle.com and then look in the discussion for some of the experience there. The new thread kernel stuff backported from 2.5 by Redhat causes the installer to puke. On the site they discuss some environemt variables that can be set to get around that. At least one other person reported that they had to go back to glibc2.2X to get things to work. Another person reported that simply downloading and compiling 2.4.20 fixed all his problems.

I just (tonight) installed on Mandrake 9.1 and had only some problems with linking ctx and some shared memory problems that were easy to fix. Mandrake uses glibc2.3.1-10mdk which along with the post on the 2.4.20 kernel makes me think that the glibc version is not really a problem. I'm going to try Redhat 9 when I can find an ftp site that is not totally congested.

Meanwhile even though this site is on Redhat 8 I found it valuable when installing on Mandrake. http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
