Robert,
That appears to be my problem. Thanks for the reply.

$ORALCE_HOME/dbs is the default location for backup set pieces that are created by RMAN if you do not use the format clause when defining a channel. This appears to be a backup piece, OR it might be a control file autobackup that occurs after any database DDL if you have that feature enabled.

List,
I have the RMAN backup and recovery book my Robert Freeman and Matthew Hart, but I'm unable to find any reference to a file created by
RMAN> backup database plus archivelog;
The file is in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs location along with the snapshot controlfile copy. It is called Ogek5oh9_1_1. I searched Metalink and Google as well as the orafaq database on snapcf hoping to find a reference to this file also, but came up empty. Does anyone know what this file is that RMAN created automatically? Can you point me to the page in the book?
TIA
M.Godlewski
