Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: RMAN and Standard Edition with 9i
Thanks Darrell. I'll look out for these items. So has anyone tried
incremental RMAN backups with Standard Edition?

This pdf document:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/oracle9i/pdf/9idb_rel2_prod_fam.pdf
has good information.
Starting on page 6 there is a 5 page table comparing which features are or are not available in standard and enterprise editions of 9i. A few that stand out regarding standard edition:
- block level media recovery, no - incremental backup and recovery, no - parallel backup and recovery, no - online backup and recovery, yes
(Way, way off topic... if any list participants are in the Chicago area and know of a sports bar, etc. that plays satellite coverage of remote sporting events, please let me know. Feel free to e-mail directly (dlandrum_at_zalecorp.com). I'm in Chicago on business and am missing the Dallas Stars game tonight!)
Thanks!

Chip - The following is what I've always heard about RMAN and Standard
vs.
Enterprise. The following is from the Oracle Backup and Recovery
Manual. I
don't think Oracle makes the boundaries between Standard and
Enterprise
abundantly clear.
The Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition have the same basic
features,
but several advanced features are available only with the Enterprise
Edition, and some of these are optional. For example, to use Recovery
Manager to perform automated tablespace point-in-time recovery, you
must
have the Enterprise Edition.

The Oracle9i Database Feature and Option Availability chapter in "Oracle9i Database New Features" is worth reading: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96531/ch5_edit
.htm#73594
Incremental RMAN backups need an Enteprise Edition (can check V$OPTION
setting).
http://www.oracle.com/ip/deploy/database/features/recovery/index.html?mediap
artner.html
lists all the Media Management vendors that support the RMAN MML.
Have Fun :)
