Home -> Community -> Mailing Lists -> Oracle-L -> RE: RMAN and Standard Edition with 9i
Chip - The following is what I've always heard about RMAN and Standard vs.
Enterprise. The following is from the Oracle Backup and Recovery Manual. I
don't think Oracle makes the boundaries between Standard and Enterprise
abundantly clear.
The Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition have the same basic features, but several advanced features are available only with the Enterprise Edition, and some of these are optional. For example, to use Recovery Manager to perform automated tablespace point-in-time recovery, you must have the Enterprise Edition.

The Oracle9i Database Feature and Option Availability chapter in "Oracle9i Database New Features" is worth reading: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96531/ch5_edit .htm#73594
Incremental RMAN backups need an Enteprise Edition (can check V$OPTION setting).
http://www.oracle.com/ip/deploy/database/features/recovery/index.html?mediap
artner.html
lists all the Media Management vendors that support the RMAN MML.
Have Fun :)
