Some things that come to mind:
Another backup has started and grabbed the tape drive so your backup has to wait.
The current tape filled up and everything sits waiting for the taped to get changed.
Sunspots.

Hi Gurus,
We are doing a RMAN full backup ( controlfile) each night using omniback to
tape drives.Almost daily we found that during backup of some archivelogs it
takes more then 1 hr ( size 30M) while for all others it takes 2-3 mins.
Do you guys have any idea , what might be the reason . Any hint ?
