I saw your posting last week and looked at your Web page, but I didn't have time to study it in detail. Frankly on Monday morning reading it isn't much better. :-) I'm thinking that if you could summarize your situation in a paragraph it might give people a better idea of what you're facing.
As to being good at RMAN recoveries, I am personally grateful that I haven't had to become good at that. ;-) If you are having trouble grasping the concepts for RMAN backup and recovery (I've found many aspects of RMAN are different from what you first assume), I would recommend Oracle Backup & Recovery 101 by Smith and Haisley. About half of this is RMAN. The great thing they do is provide a step-by-step tutorial for setting up a very small test database, backing it up, crashing it, then recovering. This illuminated a number of concepts for me.
